Change is just another word for learning Far too many people are afraid of change. Much of it is fear of the unknown. What you’re familiar with, you’re happy with. You get stuck in your ways, you find old habits difficult to break. There’s a very good reason for this. Your brain likes ‘habits’. Why? Because when you learn habits you can do things without thinking, you do them ‘automatically’.
This gives your brain the ability to concentrate on other things. It’s an amazing mechanism when it’s working for you, but it can work against you too. If you allow it free rein, unless you ‘take control’ you will ‘lose control’, and this makes making meaningful and long-lasting change difficult.
What happens is that over time, we build up lots of bad habits. Half the time we don’t know we’re doing it. Try asking yourself why you do something, you may be hard pressed to find the answer. The reason is that it’s become a habit. Because you’ve done it so often, repeating and practicing the same thing, it’s become ‘hotwired’ on your brain.
How do you get over this problem? Well, you have to change your behavior, but first there’s something you need to know first. You can’t actually ‘change your behavior’. Once something has been hotwired onto your brain, it’s there forever. To get over this you need to learn new behaviors and you do this by learning new habits. New habits that are practiced and repeated often enough will become new behaviors.

Long-term Complications of Bariatric Surgeries
Bariatric surgery has helped thousands of people who are obese to lose the excess weight and keep it off- thus improving their overall health. Bariatric surgeries, such as gastric bypass and lap-band surgeries decrease the size of the stomach, making people feel fuller and preventing them from overeating. Along with losing a great deal of weight, these people almost always experience improved general health- lower cholestoral, lower blood pressure, less frequent type II diabetes, healthier bones and joints and many other health benefits.
However, there are sometimes drawbacks to bariatric surgery. Some of the complications from these surgeries are short-term and easily fixed, but there are a few long-term complications that require long-term treatment.
One of the long-term complications is non-insulinoma pancreatogenous hypoglycemia (NIPHS), or post-bariatric surgery hypoglycemia. Despite the long title, this complication is quite easy to understand; hypoglycemia occurs when the pancreas puts out too much insulin. For most people who have hypoglycemia, the treatment consists of dietary guidelines like eating several small meals with very little processed sugar. However, that treatment doesn’t always work for people who’ve had bariatric surgery. In some instances doctors have removed a small part of the pancreas in order to keep the insulin low, and this is working effectively.
The other long-term complication is poor absorption of certain vitamins and minerals. For example, there is often a B12 deficiency. This results in anemia and neurologic complications. Sometimes changes in the absorption of calcium and oxilate result in kidney stone disease. Due to vitamin D deficiency, some people experience bone disease. Doctors will test for the deficiencies and others, and if they are present, the doctors will generally prescribe supplements.

I don’t have to tell you how hard it is to lose weight and get fit. 1. Firstly, beware of health food.
Food that you think must be good for you because it says so on the packet or bottle. Prime offenders are health food bars that while low fat are packed with sugars and carbs that convert rapidly to fat when we are not active enough to burn them off.
Where I live, a major pretender is known innocently enough as the muesli bar. North Americans know it as the granola bar, I believe. I’m sure there is a version lurking in a supermarket near you. Don’t touch them if you seriously want to lose fat. They are not going to help you.
Protein bars are a much better option. They give you a long term feeling of satisfied fullness. They also give you long term energy to complete your daily exercise routine or to get through the long dark workday afternoon without caving in to an energy slump. Protein bars help block the absorption of fats in your body, so they work really hard to help you lose fat and get fit . Health bars by contrast are often healthy in name only.
2. Likewise, careful with the healthy sounding muffin.
Muffin equals muffin top if we are talking the high rise, flour filled, cakie type muffin. The type that deludes you with such healthful ingredients as blueberries, sultanas, honey and bran.
This muffin looks like a cake for one simple reason. It is a cake. A delightfully yummy cake with lots and lots of simple carbs and sugar to give you instant gratification, an energy spike and a serve and a half of fat to slather across your dimpled thighs. If you must think muffins, think English style toasted bread type muffin, preferably without lashings of butter or margarine.
3. Energy drinks are not all what they are cracked up to be either.
Some energy drinks, like protein shakes, are fantastic for your weight control diet because they are nutritionally sound. Lots of protein to increase your metabolism and energy levels. They also help your body to burn fat. Drink them with skim milk or water and you have a fat loss hero, not a hoax.
To spot a liquid hoax, check out the details on bottles of fizzy energy boosters, sports drinks and "sports waters" - you know the popular brands around your neck of the woods. Sugar levels are often highly elevated in these drinks. That’s where the energy comes from - you’ll get an energy rush short term that will be followed a little while later with a crash that leaves you empty and desperately seeking sustenance - unable to contemplate any type of rigorous exercise that you need if you are going to lose fat and get fit.
To lose fat, you have to eat well and exercise regularly. It’s difficult enough to lose fat and get fit without being taken for a ride by fat loss hoaxes. Be wary of any product being touted as a health product and approach it with stealth, alert and alarmed.
